Tailored Renovation Focused on Functionality and Timeless Design

The renovation of Portas da Maia Pharmacy focused on two main objectives: expanding the product display area and creating a private, comfortable consultation room for personalized customer care. To achieve this, the back office was restructured, reclaiming approximately 20 m² to enlarge the sales and front display area, without compromising operational efficiency behind the scenes.
The design blends warm wooden finishes with refined ceramic elements, combining tradition with modern sophistication. Custom gondolas and shelving units optimize vertical display while preserving open circulation. Bespoke counters offer clean lines and ergonomic features for both staff and clients. A discreet consultation room ensures privacy while maintaining spatial continuity. Both natural and artificial lighting work in harmony to enhance the neutral palette, creating a welcoming, comfortable environment. The entrance area serves as a clear focal point, striking a balance between commercial goals and customer experience.
The reorganization of storage gained around 20 m² of additional retail space. Custom-designed service counters include thoughtful visual and functional details that establish an immediate sense of order and invitation. The overall style is practical yet elegant, rooted in timeless design and enhanced by the use of natural materials such as wood and ceramic.
Medd Design’s Role: From Concept to Execution
Medd Design was involved throughout the entire renovation process, from spatial planning and zoning studies to the careful selection of materials and lighting. The intervention prioritized functional clarity and customer experience, ensuring that every design decision aligned with the pharmacy’s operational needs. This tailored approach allowed the identity of Portas da Maia Pharmacy to emerge naturally through the space itself, combining efficiency, comfort, and aesthetic coherence.
